Considering a destination wedding?  Make a destination wedding budget. You need to decide who pays for what.

Do you, the bride and groom, pay for everything? Do you pay for hotel rooms and airfare for the guests? Here is a checklist that will help you plan your destination wedding budget.  It is a guideline only but it will help you in finalizing your budget.

The bride and groom (and/or their parents):

  • The wedding reception
  • A rehearsal dinner
  • A welcome party
  • A morning-after brunch or champagne toast.
Also you should consider paying for:
  • A group activity (an island tour, Catamaran Cruise or a must do activity for that destination)
  • Round trip transportation to and from the ceremony and reception sites
  • Round trip transfers between the airport and resort.
  • Wedding Party hotel rooms. Tradition says the bride and her family should cover lodging for the bridesmaids, and the grooms family should cover the groomsmen. If your budget permits, this would be considered your gift to them for being part of your wedding.
  • Travel expenses for special guests who may not be able to afford to go but you want them at your wedding.

Guests should expect to pay for:

  • Their plane ticket.
  • Their accommodations
  • Any food or drink that are not part of the wedding activities
  • Any non-wedding activities that choose to do

Wedding Party should expect to pay for:

  • Travel to and from the destination
  • Formal wear and accessories
  • Hair and makeup or spa appointments (this could be a gift from you)
  • Any food or drink that are not part of the wedding activities

Again, this is just a guideline.  You can make the whole budget process easier by choosing a resort where most things, even the wedding, are included, such as Sandals Resorts.  Your wedding is free with a 3 night stay and depending on the number of rooms that are booked, your rehearsal dinner and reception may be complimentary as well!  Transfers, food and drink, non-motorized waters ports will be covered, this will trim your destination wedding budget.  Your guests will appreciate not having to spend money while at the resort.
